Physical Therapist
Dr. Brooks is a physical therapist, coach and athlete. In addition to receiving his Doctorate degree in Physical Therapy from Sacramento State, he is also a certified strength and conditioning specialist. Prior to physical therapy school Dr. Brooks received his degree in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Exercise Physiology in 3 years, where he assisted performing the functional movement screen (FMS) for the Anaheim Ducks and an internship at an athletic performance facility where he assisted in performing and helping to develop specific training programs for various levels of athletes as well as helping general population reach their health and wellness goals. He has worked with the men and women of various backgrounds including ultramarathons, Crossfit, powerlifting, football, soccer, baseball, and triathletes. Having completing Ironman triathlons, he now has his eyes on completing a 100mile run and a 1000lb powerlifting total simultaneously.
Exercise and fitness has had a huge impact on his life. Dr. Brooks got into weight training as a teenager along side football. He was not an active or athletic 14 year old at the time, in fact, the opposite. He was shy, quiet and lacked confidence in his abilities to take on responsibilities and meet challenges head on. Getting strong in the weight room was, for him, the first time he saw how hard work and consistency would allow him to take on anything he needed or wanted to do in life which helped him to achieve the aforementioned accomplishments. Building confidence and seeing the rewards of hard work is what exercise and fitness has done for him and what he knows it does for other people. Furthermore, exercise is not an individual endeavor. Can it be? Sure. But we see with things like CrossFit, local running group meet-ups, athletic training and even commercial gym "gym buddies" that exercise helps build a community and strong bonds with people. Some of the workouts he did in high school with his friends and football teammates had the biggest impact in his friendships. Because when you exercise with people there's a shared struggle to overcome the task/workout at hand that builds connections with people and that is honestly his favorite thing about the fitness and exercise world.
